ERIC STANLEY | NORMAL

15 May

I had the great opportunity to travel to Virginia Beach with Eric Stanley as he began working on his new single “Walking Cross the Road” coming soon on iTunes.
Watch this inspirational video where he discusses what inspired him to start playing the violin and what being “normal” means to him.

“Trying to be better than someone else is a pure waste of time. Strive to be better than you were yesterday.” ~Eric Stanley

Kendrick Lamar (VCU Homecoming Concert)

Had the chance to watch and photograph talented artist Kendrick Lamar and DJ Ali at the VCU Homecoming 2012 concert, which also featured Outasight & Big Sean. This was my second time seeing him perform, my first time was at UVA, and I have to say he put on a great show like I knew he would. More images from the show can be seen on the Student Hip Hop Organization’s website.

Kehinde Wiley: Hip Hop meets Contemporary Art

31 Mar

“I think that’s partly the success of my work-the ability to straddle both of those worlds, the ability to have a young black girl walk into the Brooklyn Museum and see paintings she recognizes not because of their art or historical influence but because of their inflection, in terms of colors, their specificity and presence.” – Kehinde Wiley

Kehinde Wiley well known for combining portraits of African American men with the influence of Old Masters. He mixes renaissance art with hip-hop in such a way where his paintings of young African-American men are portrayes as the kings,  prophets and saints of European portraiture.

His unique style captures my attention, the way he is able to combine art and techniques of the past (contemporary/renaissance) with subjects of the present/modern times. Giving Hip-Hop a new prestigious look.

His upcoming MUST SEE show, “The World Stage: Israel”, is opening Saturday, April 9 at Roberts & Tilton, in California till May 28.
