Alternative Processes Final

With this body of work, I wanted to display portraits of athletes in a graphic-like context. The printing process played a significant role on these images, where the methods were used to not only enhance, but to alter and transform this medium. I am aiming to use a variety of painterly brush strokes as a design aspect of these portraits to foreshadow high energy and action. I wanted to attack the aesthetic of commercial images but transitioning these images into paintings through the cyanotype printing processes in order to transform these images.

When striving to achieve personal goals, there is a common internal struggle of having to motivate oneself in order to resist failure. We have the power of “pushing ourselves forward, or pulling ourselves back” from whatever we aspire to achieve. I aim to display this idea through athlete portraits within their associated environments, where they play multiple roles within the frame. I chose to portray athletes based on the physical exerted pain and motivational struggle they endure daily in order to become their idea of greatness.
